A Breath of Fresh Hair

Recycled DoorsMost of us enjoy a trip to the hairdresser for that quality 'me-time' experience, so it's great when we find somewhere that makes us feel really special. Having a cut or colour is one of life's affordable luxuries; being pampered and transformed into the ever-more glamourous version of our 'everyday' selves.

At Samuel David Hairdressing, it definitely feels like you've arrived somewhere pretty exceptional as soon as you walk through the door.

Designed and furnished throughout using renewable and up-cycled materials, this is a destination with its own individual look and exclusive feel; the beautiful décor being the work of owner Sam who clearly has a talent for interior design to accompany his entrepreneurial skills.

Home Grown Design

With walls and floors in a relaxing grey hue, the interior of Samuel David Hairdressing is quirky and interesting. The waiting area alone, with its Georgian chairs, fireplace, ornately framed pictures and antique reception desk, would make even the most undeserving amongst us feel spoilt.

From the ceiling, clusters of ornate light bulbs and down-lighters give the whole room a welcoming aura; the star of this overhead show being a stunning branch garnished alcove lit with a soft green and purple glow. In keeping with the eco-friendly design of the salon, the branches used in the alcove come from apple trees in Sam's garden, seasoned and arranged to create this aerial centrepiece which runs almost the length of the room.

Keeping it Green

Fabulous FishStriking reclaimed doors dominate the walls as unique client styling areas; stripped of their paint to give a delicately dappled look and with the top panels replaced by mirrors. Sam explains that the doors are from the 1930s, each one having been deliberately sanded unevenly to give an individually irregular pattern and showing off the generations of over-layered paint creating a fantastic vintage effect.

Rustic wooden shelves and cupboards line the walls, displaying the neatly lined naturally-derived hair products, interspersed with splashes of green from various plants and herbs. At the far end of the salon are the darker timber floors of the hair washing area, lit by delicate rainbow tones and mirroring the colours illuminating the huge fish tank which extends half way along one wall.

Upstairs, there's another elegant and streamlined space; more timber walls and floors, natural furnishings, stylishly kitsch wallpaper, and a stunning focal point provided by an impressive trailing Geranium window decoration.

This is no ordinary hair salon. It's fresh, it's contemporary and it's most certainly creative. We recommend you take the Street View virtual tour below.
