Art by the Ocean
On a quiet street in the beautiful town of St Just near the very tip of the Cornish coast, our favourite virtual tour this week takes us to a beautiful gallery of art.
Opening in 2015, the Jackson Foundation Gallery is the work of Kurt Jackson, a contemporary British artist working in mixed media. Kurt's dramatic, large canvases are inspired by the Cornish coast and reflect his commitment to the environment and natural world.
His established, successful career includes being 'Artist in Residence' at the Eden Project and Glastonbury Festival.
Light & Space
Housed within a stone and timber warehouse in keeping with the surrounding granite cottages which embody the tin-mining history of this quiet community, the Jackson Foundation Gallery building has been carefully renovated by local builders and craftsmen. The result is a stunning modern, clean-lined space in which striking art exhibits can be appreciated over two floors.

This is a destination not to be rushed. An expanse of white walls, glossy marble flooring and iron ceiling beams welcome you at the front door. An inspiring expanse, there's plenty of room for visitors to stand back and take time to appreciate the building itself, as well as the impressive works of art displayed inside.
Stunning Seascapes
Huge, energetic canvases hung through the main gallery and adjoining rooms bring the walls alive with the sight, sounds and drama of the ocean. Surf-themed sculptures exhibited in the centre of this space continue the focus on the sea.

The atmosphere throughout is bright and airy, helped by the light from the large windows and spotlights reflecting in the polished flooring, together with the cool calm of the surrounding alabaster walls.
In addition to the galleries on the ground floor which feature new works by Kurt, upstairs there is a further room of exhibition space where the artist focuses on his collaborations with various charities.
Here you can wander around the warm wooden flooring and find out more about the work of Greenpeace, Surfers Against Sewage and the Cornwall Wildlife Trust.
