Character, Comfort & Charm

In the centre of Salisbury, just a few minutes' walk from the Cathedral holding Britain's tallest spire, is where you'll find our favourite virtual tour this week. The Chapter House is a historic black and white timber framed building which is home to a restaurant, pub and boutique hotel accommodation.

Quirky Features

Having been a restaurant and hotel for many years, it's believed that the original use of The Chapter House was a place for cutting the stone used in the construction of Salisbury Cathedral, some 800 years ago. Parts of the original stone and ironwork inside the building can still be seen, with the rich chocolate oak panelling and beautiful ancient fireplaces visible in some of the 17 stylishly furnished bedrooms.

The timber and stone-tiled floors, exposed beams, narrow hallways and winding wooden staircase rising up from the welcoming reception area all add to the historic character of the building. You'll find some wonderful quirky touches too, like the rows of glowing milk bottle lights which descend from the ceiling as you approach the bar.

In addition to the ample seating inside, there's also a stunning courtyard with plenty of space for guests to eat, drink and admire the building from outdoors.

New Chapter

Significant refurbishment since its new ownership in November 2014 has resulted in this handsome building boasting many modern and comfortable amenities. The inviting bedrooms are all en-suite or with private bathrooms, and come complete with fluffy goose down duvets, Egyptian cotton linen, luxurious toiletries and flat screen TVs.

As you would expect from a building steeped in so much character, no two bedrooms are the same. Each is decorated in its own inimitable style. Take the virtual tour to look inside, including the executive family room with walls encased in wood panelling, and where a striking stone fireplace and crest stand proudly across from the super king size bed. Soft lighting from an array of floor and table lamps ensures a cosy, warm ambience pervades the welcoming space.

Whatever it is that draws you here, whether it's the history, the boutique accommodation, the fine food and drink, or perhaps all of the above, The Chapter House is certainly worth a visit next time you're in Wiltshire.
